The Lord's Transfiguring Kiss
In the mysterious hour of rose and purple sky
Faint as a sigh when borne upon the breeze,
Dusk arrived, the calm to amplify
And settled, drifting down through silent trees.
All the green and vivid growth in light
Slowly sinking into eve's embrace
Vanished from the realm of mortal sight
And left a lovely fragrance in its trace.
Darkness took its hold in strange delight
And from its bed of soft creative ease
Like spangles on the velvet cloak of night
Issued forth its star-struck melodies.
Choruses of cries disrupting peace
Their raucous calls resound from limb to limb
A symphony atonal without cease
Harshly sung like an overjoyous hymn.
And in this ancient atmosphere we sleep
To rest and dream our unremembered dreams
Unconscious swim in waters warm and deep
Seeking to find those soul-embracing streams
And rivers where the spirit worlds unite.
In that subtle space with open eyes we seize
A glimpse of God's corona in our sight
Revealing the future's dawning matrices,
The outline of the secret Master's plan
Etched in stellar argosies of hues,
His relentless miracle that fashioned man;
In every cell the truth-light shall infuse
The fire that sets the aspiring soul ablaze,
A force transform from realms of timeless bliss
A golden influx brighten human ways
And earth receive the Lord's transfiguring kiss.
